Do you like to work outdoors? Tri-County Literacy Council is offering a free 5-week Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance certificate program. Practice Essential Skills while you learn about this popular field. Attend a site visit and meet guest speakers who will share their expertise.

FREE online training: Email 101

Would you like to learn to use the more advanced features of email? If you tend to only reply to messages or send basic correspondence, this course is for you. In this free online training program, you will learn to:
  • Maintain an address book
  • Use a calendar
  • Create tasks
  • Draft messages
  • Format messages
  • Use cc and bcc
  • Include hyperlinks in your messages
  • Create an electronic signature
  • Add attachments
  • Create folders to keep mail organized
  • Follow proper etiquette & safe practices

This online course (certificate program) is taught via Zoom (an easy-to-use online platform). If you have access to a computer (with camera and microphone), an Internet connection, a Microsoft Account (ex: Outlook.com or Hotmail email etc.) and basic computer skills, this training is for you.

Free Communication Class

Communication is an essential part of life. People have different ideas and beliefs. At times, it can be impossible to come to an agreement. Communication can bring forth positive change and new ideas. Communication can also lead to conflict that damages relationships at home or at work. This training helps adults improve their communication skills in a safe learning environment. In this program, we explore topics such as assertiveness, dealing with conflict and difficult people, anger, and so much more. Benefit from guest speakers.

Tri-County Literacy Council is offering a free online course via Zoom: Microsoft PowerPoint.

Microsoft® PowerPoint is a fun and easy-to-use computer program that allows you to create captivating, stylish, computerized slide show presentations complete with text, shapes, pictures, clipart, and charts, as well as special effects (animation), and sound!

Whether for professional or personal use, this program is for you, if you’re looking to:

FREE Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance Training

Participants will learn Essential Skills working with plants, garden design, soil preparation, safety at work, and other topics, as well as, meet interesting guest speakers. The curriculum was developed by Literacy Link Eastern Ontario in partnership with Tri-County Literacy Council. The training is suitable for a variety of learners including those planning to enter the workforce for the first time, people changing careers, and individuals wishing to strengthen Essential Skills. There are 9 Essential Skills at differing levels, identified by the Government of Canada, as necessary for success at home, work, and play. These skills are:
