Tri-County Literacy Council (TCLC) is a non-profit agency that has been providing free customized literacy instruction to adult learners in the Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry Counties for more than 36 years. Our training is based on the nine essential skills identified by the Government of Canada as necessary for success at work and in daily life. We offer one-on-one tutoring, small classroom instruction, and online training programs via Zoom. We also offer educational assessments and develop training plans based on an individual’s goals. We help learners improve their literacy skills for employment, apprenticeships, secondary school credit, post-secondary education, and independence.
We are searching for an Executive Director who will continue to promote TCLC within the community and who is committed to continuing the agency’s legacy of supporting adult learners. As Executive Director, you sit on and report directly to the Board of Directors. You are responsible for the planning, development and delivery of programming as well as the roles and responsibilities associated with non-profit and volunteer management. You liaise with funding partners and community stakeholders, while ensuring the agency has a long range strategy. The Executive Director is responsible for optimal use of the agency’s financial, human, and other resources. You ensure program goals, budget development, and administration of programs is on track and you manage and monitor budgets to ensure they are tracking to the agency’s strategic plan.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
As our Executive Director, you’ll require a university degree or equivalent in Business Administration or Finance or a related field and leadership experience in a non-profit environment. You will have a working knowledge of legislation applicable to TCLC, the non-profit sector and employees. You will bring a good knowledge base of community resources.
Your strong, proven leadership skills will support and motivate a team of professionals. You will have conflict resolution skills, diplomacy, and excellent communication skills to interact with staff, community partners and stakeholders, government agencies, and the public.
You communicate effectively orally and in writing and are comfortable creating and giving professional presentations. Your report writing is clear and concise and you have a proven track record of grant sourcing and grant writing. You have proven marketing and public relations skills.
You are known for your skills in making and implementing decisions, project management, leading staff, as well as your critical thinking, accountability, and your high level of integrity and confidentiality.
You have experience in creating and managing multiple budgets, and a strong knowledge of fiscal management and business finance and contracts.
The Executive Director will require their own transportation, car insurance and a valid driver’s licence as well as a Police Record Check.
HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with some travel required. Flexibility with regard to breakfast or evening events is required.

Part-Time Bookkeeper

JOB POSTING
The bookkeeper posts and balances the everyday transactions of the agency using a series of Excel spread sheets. The individual works closely with the Executive Director who approves all transactions. The bookkeeper networks regularly with an “outside” accounting “firm” by delivering and picking up, weekly, all invoices to be paid by the firm. Accounts are balanced by the bookkeeper and with the firm, monthly. The individual networks with all payees and is responsible for the management of training supports for learners. The bookkeeper completes all banking transactions as required. The individual networks with the Nevada representative and completes reports as directed. Additional financial reports are completed for funders and the Board of Directors. The individual provides necessary input into the creation of all budgets and is responsible for all purchasing. The bookkeeper creates related filing systems while maintaining up to date records in accordance with standards set by the organization.
Educational Requirements:
College or University or equivalent experience
Skill Requirements:
Computer skills – Excel and Microsoft Office Word
Ability to analyze financial data
High degree of organization and time management skills
Knowledge of establishing and maintaining record keeping systems
Strong Oral and Written Communication
Experience with office equipment
Duties:
Preparation of invoices for E.D. approval
Post/Analyze financial transactions daily
Banking as per the agency requirement
Collection/delivery/pick up of time sheets/invoices to outside accounting firm
Presenting documents to E.D. for signature
Balancing monthly with P&L from outside accounting firm
Mailing documents
Maintain Petty Cash
Maintain Training Supports
Purchasing
Preparation of financial reports as needed
Maintain bookkeeping filing systems
Providing input into operating and project budgets
Liaise with funders when required
Work Schedule/Place of Work/Requirements:
This position is Monday to Wednesday 9-5pm at the offices of Tri-County Literacy Council. A car is required.
Rate of Pay:
$18.00/hr. and benefits after 6 months
